Mont-Tremblant, Versant Nord

The north side of Mont-Tremblant is a find for intermediate-advanced skiers and boarders who want the hills, not the tourist traps.

Mont-Tremblant is a popular ski resort in the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec, Canada. While the mountain’s south side is known for its scenic views and family-friendly atmosphere, the north side, or Versant Nord, offers a different kind of experience.

With less of a touristy vibe and a focus on intermediate and advanced skiing and snowboarding, the north side of Mont-Tremblant is a haven for experienced winter sports enthusiasts. However, visitors should be prepared for colder temperatures, windier conditions, and more icy terrain than on the south side.

In this article, we’ll take a closer look at what makes the north side of Mont-Tremblant unique and why it’s a must-visit destination for advanced skiers and snowboarders.

Weather and Conditions

One of the most notable differences between the north and south sides of Mont-Tremblant is the weather.

The north side, or Versant Nord, tends to be cooler and windier than the south side, which can be a welcome relief for skiers and snowboarders looking to escape the crowds and enjoy more of a wilderness experience.

In addition, the north side typically keeps more of its snow and has a deeper base of snow than the south side, making it an excellent choice for those seeking out the best powder runs.

However, with little to no direct sun exposure, it’s important to dress warmly and come prepared for the colder conditions on the north side of Mont-Tremblant.

Overall, the cooler temperatures and abundance of snow make the north side a great choice for experienced skiers and snowboarders looking to challenge themselves and enjoy some of the best conditions in the region.

Best runs on the north side of Mont-Tremblant

  1. Devil’s River. For advanced skiers and boarders, Devil’s River is an undiscovered gem. Accessed on the right side of Saute-Moutons and dumping onto Jasey-Jay Anderson (all advanced), Devil’s river is an undiscovered gem for people looking for fresh powder.
  2. Marie-Claude Asselin. A classic trail right off from the peak, Marie-Claude Asselin is a narrow trail with natural moguls and woods.
  3. Lowell Thomas. This is an excellent trail for intermediate skiers or boarders to gain confidence in their skills and prepare for more challenging runs. With various conditions and sweeping turns, each ride down can be different.

Access to Verdsant Nord

Visitors can access the north side by taking the gondola or parking directly there.

Via Gondola

If you start your day on the south side (or Versant Sud), then simply take the Télécabine Express gondola up from the base and ski or snowboard down the north side runs.

Via Car

An insider tip is to avoid the packed parking lots on the south side and park directly on the north side. Navigate to the Mont-Tremblant resort and follow signs to Chem. Duplessis, which is the road that loops around the mountain and goes to the north side parking lot and lodge.
